Minutes for February 2014 Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Homesteaders 4-H Club was held on February 14, 2014.

President Bailey Monnahan called the meeting to order at 2:03 P.M. Julie Aprill led the prayer, and Ben Mathis led the devotion on John 13:34-35.  Audrey Wheatley led the pledges.  Julie Aprill took the roll call; members were to respond with their middle name.  Julie Aprill read the minutes, Molly Scruggs moved that we accept them, and Foster Krempin seconded it; the motion passed.  Liberty Mathis gave the treasurer’s report, Ben Mathis moved that we accept it, and Molly Scruggs seconded it; motion passed.

Old Business:

For our February community service we will be taking meals to the Wood family.  We also signed a card for them.  We voted to sell the Palisade peaches at $35 per box for our club fundraiser.

New Business:

The March tray favors will be Saint Patrick’s Day themed.  Julie Aprill voted to buy green scratch shamrocks from Oriental Trading, and Liberty Mathis seconded it; the motion passed. Shelly Mathis will organize it.  

Marcy Monnahan might have eggs that we can use in April.  

If you have any questions about your projects you can send them to Shelly Mathis.  

The club will send a card to the Cameron Family to express sympathy for their barn fire.

Announcements:

February Community Service Baby Wood will be arriving on Friday, February 14th!  Shelly Mathis will be emailing the schedule for next week’s Meals for the Woods.

“Code of the West” Cloverbud Camp - Saturday, March 8th, from 2-4 p.m.

NEXT Homesteaders Meeting - Friday, March 14th  from 1 - 3 p.m. at Kremmling Community Church.  Molly has the next prayer, Audrey has the next devotion, and the Hubbards have the next snack.

Ben Mathis moved that we adjourn the meeting and Foster Krempin seconded it.  The meeting was adjourned at 3:08 P.M.

Treasurer’s Report = $855.26

• Scholarship Fund = $250
• Available Funds = $455.26

Old Business

• The club voted to sell Palisade peaches as a fundraiser.
• We have from now until the end of June to make sales in a variety of places.
• Voted to sell each box for $35.00.
• The club will make $10-12 per box, depending on how many we sell.
• If we sell at least 150, the orchard will deliver the boxes to Kremmling in a refrigerated truck.
• Shelly will create a spreadsheet, instructional help sheet, and contact cards and mail out to families.

New Business

• March Tray Favors
• The club voted to buy Green Magic Color Scratch Shamrock Ornaments from Oriental Trading for March’s tray favors.  Shelly will make the order.
• If Marcy has Easter tray favors, we can prepare those at our April meeting, since Easter is on April 20th this year.
• Project Questions
• In the February Club News, you will find instructions on how to get started on your project and record book.
• Please let Shelly or the Office know if you have any questions!
• Sympathy Card to Camerons
• The club signed a sympathy card to the Cameron family who lost their barn and animals in a fire.

Club Meeting

Here is our schedule for February’s meeting:

• Friday, February 14th, at the Kremmling Community Church, from 1-3 p.m.
• 1:00 - 1:20 p.m. ~ Jr. Leaders prepare for Cloverbud Time (Bailey, Molly, Julie, Liberty, Ben, Joy, Audrey)
• 1:20 - 1:50 p.m. ~ Clover Time for all club members to learn about the cowboy ethic of honor!
• 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ~ Business Meeting & Visiting Time

Terminology Clarification

I wanted to clarify if there is some confusion regarding the following 4-H terminology:

• Jr. Leaders - 4-H members are called “Junior Leaders” when they work with younger kids in 4-H.  There is a place in the record books for them to record the times where they assisted, taught, demonstrated, or displayed leadership abilities in helping out other 4-H members.  We call our kids who are leading the Clover Time Jr. Leaders, because they are utilizing this time to practice these leadership skills.
• Members - 4-H members are divided into age groups and given a name for their division.  Their 4-H age is determined by how old they are on December 31st of the current 4-H year:
• Cloverbuds (5-7 year olds)
• Ella
• Wesley
• Kenna
• Gracie
• Kylie
• Foster
• Junior Members (8-10 year olds)  *Note: This is a different classification than Jr. Leaders.
• Carl
• Audrey
• Jessica
• Intermediate Members (11-13 year olds)
• Joy
• Ben
• Cameron
• Sierra
• Senior Members (14-19 year olds)
• Molly

Record Books, Etc.

• Cloverbuds are not required to complete a record book!
• Everybody else… Locate, Download, and Print the E-Record Book for each of your 4-H projects HERE.
• Click on the appropriate link for the project record book.
• It will download into your Downloads folder on your computer.
• Open your Downloads folder to copy and paste the file wherever you would like to store it for future use.
• Options:
• Print and write in the data by hand.
• Type in the data and print.
• Store in a 3-ring binder.

• Note: There are some project manuals in file format listed below the record books.  Review the list and download if they pertain to your project.

• AFTER you download your record book, there are project guides that will be of help to you as your work on your project.  Please click on the category link in which your 4-H project resides:

• Family Consumer Science Project Guides

• The Extension Office will be hosting a Record Book Workshop in March on a Friday afternoon.  NEW members - please try to attend!

• Suggestions In Getting Started
• Take the time to browse through them to get an overview picture of the project.
• Write down ideas of how to schedule your project assignments over the next few months.
• If you need someone to help learn the project (or to help teach it to your children), let me know!  We can contact the office to see if they can hook us up with an “expert.”

on how to get started on your 4-H project, record books, etc.
